Creative Herbal Tea Infusions
Recipes That Get Right to the Scoop
What’s better than sipping a calming and delicious herbal infusion? Soaking in one. If you’re feeling tense, this is the remedy.
Lullaby is an herbal blend of lemon balm, peppermint, blackberry leaves, lemon grass, chamomile, lavender, rose petals, orange blossoms and heather blossoms. Chamomile, lemon balm, rose, and lavender are used to calm the nerves and encourage a sense of well being. Blackberry leaf, chamomile, heather, rose and lemon grass are known to nourish or gently cleanse the skin. Add these herbs to a blend of salt, baking soda, and essential oil, and you have a therapeutic, herbal mineral bath coming your way.
To make a batch of four Half-Pint Jars (for four baths):
1 c. (100 g.) Lullaby Herbal Blend from Poetic Tea Company.
1/2 c. baking soda
3 c. Epsom or Dead Sea Salt
1/4 tsp. skin-friendly essential oil (lavender or peppermint are good options)
4 half-pint air-tight jars
8 c. boiling water
Here’s the scoop:
Preparing Your Herbal Bath Salt
Drizzle essential oil around the bottom and sides of a large mixing bowl;
Add salt and baking soda and stir until well-blended;
Add Lullaby Herbal Blend and mix until well-distributed;
Divide your herbal salt blend into four parts and package them as desired
Preparing to Soak
When you’re ready to soak, put the kettle on and place a cup of your herbal salt in a large bowl (fill a tied piece of cheesecloth or use another filter to avoid cleaning herbs from the tub);
Once your water boils, pour over your herbal salts and breathe in some of the vapors while the mixture starts to brew and settle;
Start your bath while you let your herbal salts brew for at least five minutes;
Pour your herbal salt infusion into your bath and enjoy immediately. For full effect, soak for at least twenty minutes and sip a cup of Lullaby during or after your soak.
Cheers to a relaxed and nourished you! ~ Sara
*Pro Tip 1: To pamper your nerves and your skin, I recommend sipping a cup of Lullaby while you prepare your bath and sipping a cup once you’re done soaking and ready to wind down for the night.
*Pro Tip 2: If you want to avoid cleaning herbs from the tub after your soak, wrap and brew your herbal bath salt in a piece of cheesecloth and tie with twine or ribbon. Alternatively, you can use a soap exfoliating bag with a drawstring and fill it to the brim with your bath salt. As a third alternative, you can finely grind your herbs with a food processor or coffee grinder so they easily go down the drain.
*Pro Tip 3: If you live in a humid climate or if any moisture gets into your stored bath salts, your mixture will harden and clump. One remedy is to bake your salts after blending with essential oil to ensure they’re completely dry. Fifteen minutes at 200 degrees should do the trick. Alternatively, you can add a pinch uncooked rice to your jars as it tends to absorb excess moisture.
*Pro Tip 4: Store herbal salts in a cool, dark, dry area in an airtight glass container for maximum shelf-life.
